Getting Real: Chapter 5

September 25, 2008 at 6:00 am (Uncategorized) (, )

This chapter focuses on how you as the creator, should set your priorities. You need to focus on the things that need more attention, becaue if you start with things that are really not needed, you will have the tendency to not make the more important stuff better.

“Most of the time you spend is wasted on things that just don’t matter. If you can cut out the work and thinking that just don’t matter, you’ll achieve productivity you’ve never imagined. ” I personally like this statement because I myself can relate to this. I often spend time on things that is less important rather than what is really needed. For instance, I was making this project about houses. We were asked to make small house out of cardboard boxes. I was not able to make the house look good because I started off planning on the details rather than the whole foundation of the house. So there, I ended up having a low grade. haha

Getting Real: Chapter 4

In this chapter, it mainly talks about how you need a statement wherein it will give you enough inspiration in making your very own application. The first link tells me that having a good vision ends up having a good application. A good one-liner is enough because it will keep you reminded about your vision. This vision will guide your decisions and keep you on a consistent path. Make the big decision about your vision upfront and all your future little decisions become much easier.

The next link talks about on how the details should be disregarded for now and focus on the foundation of the application. You should not get stuck with a very easy thing to do and hang yourself there for awhile. You will tend to make it a very bad one. I myself, agree with what Mr. Patrick Lafleur said in his  comment wherein he stated that “You should begin by getting your proportions right for the whole scene. Then you sketch the largest objects in your scene, up to the smallest one. The sketch must be very loose up to this point. Then you can proceed with shading which consists of bringing volume to life.”

The next link tells us that we should not worry about things that are not there yet. We should not focus on them first because you will tend to disregard the things that need immediate attention.

Getting Real: Chapter 3

This chapter for me talks about being lean, small, tiny, etc.. in order to have a good software. The first link talked about being lean. The leaner you are, the easier it is to change. This means that being lean is an advantage beacuse the leaner it is the easier it is to modify. In short, hassle free. The bigger the object is, the more energy you will consume, the more hassle it is. LEANER THE BETTER!

The next link talked about somewhat the same because it still focuses on being lean. Same with the next link. It says there that you should start with only 3 people because. The good thing about having a lack of  manpower is that you’ll be forced to deal with tradeoffs earlier in the process — and that’s alright. It will make you figure out your priorities earlier rather than later. And you’ll be able to communicate without constantly having to worry about leaving people out of the loop.

This chapter basically emphasized the word “SMALL”. They showed us on how being small, a good thing. hehe :D

Getting Real: Chapter 1

September 10, 2008 at 2:50 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

Basically Getting Real is an article which talks about how to build a software the smaller, the faster and the better way. This is like a guide in helping people to develop their own software. Aside from what Getting Real is about, it also shows the benefits we will gain. An example of this is that Getting Real delivers better results because it forces you to deal with the actual problems you’re trying to solve instead of your ideas about those problems. It forces you to deal with reality.

The next link talked about the 37signals is a group of skilled people who makes softwares for people who needs software for their businesses. They make life easier for small business owners by building softwares which they let the users do what they want to do while using it without feeling any hassle. The 37signals have 5 commercial products and 1 opensource application framework namely: Basecamp, Campfire, Backpack, Writeboard, Ta-Da List and the Ruby on rails. To furthermore learn about their products, visit www.3signals.com

The last link for me is about others who do not appreciate good things. Their just a bunch of no-good blabber mouths who doesn’t appreciate a good work. It’s good that Getting Real answered all their complaints.

SHOPIFY!

September 10, 2008 at 2:27 pm (Uncategorized)

Learning how to use shopfiy was great! In this website, i can sell stuff through the net. I can also view and buy orther peoples items. The concept of having this website is good but the website it self for me is not that user friendly. It’s a bit hard to use it at first but as you tinker with the website, you will get the hang of it. The funny thing that happenned to me was that, I had a hard time looking for the button where you can add a product. But eventually, I found it. haha.
